Nanette Kilohana Kaihawanawana Orman is a psychiatrist, journalist, hula dancer and student of the culture, language and history of Hawai'i.

She received her two Hawaiian names in 1999 and 2006 from the kumu hula of her two halau, Clark Kahekamalamalamaika'aina Bolivar, Jr., (The Ladies of Moani Ke ' Ala O Ka Mailelauli'i) and Kau'i Isa-Kahaku (Halau Na Wai Ola).

Dr. Orman began her hula education in 1957 in Van Nuys, California, with Thessaly Ahuna Edge as her first instructor. Between 1960 and 1998, she was an audience member at hula performances, and watched as the Renaissance of native cultures in the United States lifted traditional hula, Hawaiian language, and Hawaiian music into wide public view and appreciation. She resumed the study of hula in 1998. This is her first book.

Dr. Orman lives in Half Moon Bay, California.
